Whale Watching Testimonial

blogI’m English and have lived on the Gold Coast for 9 months to date and the concept of whale watching was completely foreign to me!

At last, on Wednesday 28th August, I took the opportunity to go out on the Whales In Paradise vessel, Mahi Mahi on the 2.30pm tour.

I can honestly say I had a fantastic time. The weather and sea conditions were perfect: calm and warm.

Firstly, the scenic canal cruise got everyone in the mood with light humored stories and commentary about the homes that line the Nerang River.  Going out the seaway into the ocean was exciting and everyone kept their eyes peeled to spot the tell tail blowholes on the horizon for us to head towards.  Within no time we had found our beautiful whales.  A pod of three females were to be our company for the duration of our trip.  Their breaching, tail slapping and cruising through the water kept us entertained and wide eyed in marvel. The backdrop of Surfers Paradise and the Hinterland in the distance along with the quietness of open water was just idyllic:  A true memory never to be forgotten.

Gary, the captain was fantastic.  Out on open water we were all sat around the top deck asking him questions and he diligently answered over the microphone.  I was suitably impressed, his wealth of knowledge about these beautiful creatures was impressive and we all learned so much.  The crew were amazing and it was nice for me to see them in action out on the boat.  This environment was comfortable, intimate and personal.  It was so nice that people from different parts of the globe were united by this beautiful tour: all nationalities amazed and appreciative of the same experience.

Cruising back with the sun setting over the Hinterland in front of us was the icing on the cake: a perfect end to a perfect cruise and day.
