A Fur Seal Visits the Gold Coast
We had a very unique visitor awaiting our arrival at our Wharf upon returning from this morning's Whale Watching cruise...a Fur Seal!
Fur seals are not usually found in our waters. There are colonies of fur seals along the southern part of the Australian coastline as well as in New Zealand and this seal could have come from either, all we know is that it is a long way from home!
It is believed strong currents can bring them into unfamiliar waters and around this time of year there are reports of stranded seals along the Queensland and NSW coastlines. The poor wee mite looked a little weathered, maybe a little unwell? The authorities were notified and we hope help arrived in time to help the little one out.
On a more positive note there were lots of whales about this morning. We were mugged continuously by a very inquisitive pod much to the delight of passengers and crew.
AND....yesterday afternoon was CRAZY with Whale activity! The Skipper said there was breaches left right and centre, the most he had ever seen on one tour! This morning we received a call from a group of students from Griffith Language School whom cruised yesterday afternoon thanking us very much for an amazing afternoon saying it was the best afternoon of their lives!! They were soooo excited and didn't know where to look and will remember it forever!
